Scale Aviation Modeller International – March 2019

(WallPaper) #1

T

his ProiPACK
release, containing
the parts to build
an OAW-produced
machine, and has been around
since 2005, and was one of
three diferent D.VII boxings
produced that year. A further
eight followed including an
awesome Royal Class release
(R0002) in 2006, and more
recently a ‘Dawn Patrol’ limited
edition ‘dual-combo’ featuring
the parts to build a Fokker-
produced machine and its
Spad XIII adversary. Across the
series, production variations
on the actual aircraft have been
catered for, meaning that parts
difer slightly with each release.
These include several fuselage-
types, alternative wheels,
cowlings, propellers and
engine parts. The two fuselage-
types contained within this
particular release allow the

modeller to build a machine
with cowlings featuring either
the dimple-style or slatted
cooling louvres. It is important
to note though that the louvre
patterns often difered even
amongst airframes from a
single manufacturer, as it
was only after the Fokkers’
introduction into service
that overheating problems
necessitated the addition of
extra cooling vents and louvres
which were often added in the
ield until changes could be
made on the production line.
Indeed, of the two schemes
provided in the kit that feature
dimple-style louvres, one
requires that some of the
dimples be removed, though
the required modiication is not
mentioned in the instructions
despite the line drawings
appearing so modiied. In
total there are four very

colourful schemes provided
in this ProiPACK release
including: Hasso von Wedel’s
mount, featuring his red
torture wheel emblem on the
fuselage sides. Franz Buchner’s
blue-painted machine with
its snarling werewolf motif;
the lilac-panelled mount of
Rudolf Stark of Jasta 35b. And
last but by no means least, a
