PAINTING
With the airframe at this stage,
it was time for paint, and a
decision on the inal scheme.
The RLM 65/70/71 bomber
splinter scheme ofered by
Revell is a bit nondescript, and
a trawl of the internet revealed
some much more interesting
RLM 65/63/62/61 (blue/grey/
green/brown) schemes from
Gruppo 7-G-14 of the Spanish
Nationalist Air Force deployed
during the Spanish Civil War in
- These aircraft appear to
have been painted in a variety
of ways, with either a sharp
splinter or rounded camoulage
pattern, and used diferent
variants on the Nationalist
roundel. I ended up going
with something of a mixed
bag, using the ex-Matchbox
Nationalist decals, on a splinter
pattern, - probably not wholly
accurate but I’m happy with
it being representational. I
used Mr Color H57 for the light
blue, H308/303 for the grey
and green, and Tamiya XF64
for the brown. The mix of Mr

some 377Km/hr (222 MPH), earned the
He 70 the nickname ‘Blitz’
