SAAB JA-37 Viggen

First look at Special Hobby SAAB JA-37 Viggen (TEST SHOT) 1/72 Scale

I

do use the term “that is one
of my favourite aircraft” a
lot but the SAAB Viggen is
in my personal top ten. Having
seen one in Sweden taking of
from a road it is hard to describe
the impression of sheer brute
force this aircraft left me with.
The type is now long out of
service so I doubt I will ever
see one in the air again. But
now Special Hobby brought it
all looding back with there
all new 1/72 scale example.
The sample we received
is a test shot with no decals
and a photocopy of the
assembly instructions but no
information on proposed colour
options though I suspect both
splinter and air superiority
grey will be included.
The plastic parts show that
from the outset the plastic
parts are designed to produce
every version of the Viggen
produced out of the box this
means that we have three
cockpit tubs, and instrument
panels as well as a choice for
the distinctive canards as
they are slightly larger on the
Fighter variant which will be
the irst release the JA-37.
The detail supplied by the
plastic parts will be more than
adequate, but I am sure it will

not be long before we saw a
number of resin update sets
from Special Hobby. In the mean
time I am sure you can use the
existing 1/72 scale Tarrangus
detail and weaponry sets
designed for the old Heller kits.

CONCLUSION
It will be a few months before
this kit becomes available
but it will be worth the wait.
And I did suggest to Special
Hobby that it would be nice as
they have already produced
a 1/48 scale kit and now this
1/72 scale kit it would also
be nice to have a 1/32 scale
Viggen but irst we have a 1/32
Westland Whirlwind Fighter
to look forward to in 2020!
