ome time ago I had a
pleasure to review the
Brengun’s 1/72 single-
seat trainer glider based on
‘Ohka’ Kamikaze airframe
(see September 2018 issue
of SAMI). Now, Brengun has
released a two-seat version of
the trainer glider, factory coded
as MXY7-K1 Kai Model 43. Both
single-seat and tandem gliders
had aerodynamically faired
tail section and the shock-
absorbed skid installed. In the
K-1 Kai Model 43 the second
cockpit with a separate bubble
canopy in the front, instead
of the warhead, giving it quite
unusual appearance. Also, the
wing span was increased, and
the vertical stabilisers units
were taller, compared to the
basic version. The model comes
in a side-opening colourful
box with a picture of the plane
inside some hangar on support
frames. On the back of the box
there is the simple colour and
decal placement scheme - IJN
green over grey. Inside the
box is a bag containing grey
polystyrene sprue with parts,
two clear canopies on a separate
sprue, small etched fret and
two vertical empennage items
and the ventral bumper in

resin. Also, there is of course
a black and white instruction
lealet and an extensive decal
sheet. This sheet is common
also to the Type 11 ‘Ohka’ kit
as well as to single seat glider
version. Thanks to the decal
sheet we are informed that in
Brengun’s future plans there is
also the Type 22 ‘Ohka’ model
kit a version powered with the
motor-jet (Campini) instead of
rockets. The plastic parts are
cleanly moulded, with no lash,
and feature thin and shallow

panel lines. The canopies are
thin, perfectly transparent
with well-deined yet true-to-
scale framing. Still, if one is
not satisied with these, in the
Brengun’s catalogue there are
vacuum formed substitutes.
Instructions tell you to use
nine etched parts out of eleven
on the fret. Remaining two
constitute the basic ground-
handling dolly. Again, there is
a separate etched fret produced
by Brengun that includes some
cockpit details, instrument
panels, balance weights and
pilot’s seats with belts.
Construction began with the
cockpits, which consists of a

loor, pilot’s seat, control stick
and pedals, and instrument
panel. The it is quite good
here, but the placement of
the front cockpit loor must
be guesstimated. The interior
was painted Tamiya acrylic
IJN Interior Green and the
instruments’ faces were
picked-out with a thin black
permanent marker. I decided
to paint seats Aluminium
instead of black as suggested in
the instructions. There are no
locating pins on fuselage sides
but taking into account the
dimensions of the model the it
is perfect. The locating tabs on
