Last month after the Airix
press launch of the 2019 range at
Maidenhead we featured the full
list of 2019 release so we were not
expecting much when we visited
the Hornby stand at Nuremberg.
So we were very surprised to see
a full set of production sprues
from the 1/24 Grumman Hellcat
and 1/48 scale Supermarine
Spitire FR.Mk.XIV. The surface
detail on the Hellcat features the
oil canning efect, irst seen on
the 1/24 Hawker Typhoon but
on the production kit both thatand the lapping of the fuselage
panels are-better than seen on
the test shot. Both kits are on
course for release in late Spring
and we will feature a full First
Look as soon as we have them.
Also, one thing we missed
in last month’s list is that the
De Havilland Sea Vixen in 1/48
scale makes a very welcome
return to the range after a few
years absence from the range.
Something that will upset auction
site users as the kit was achieving
prices as much as four times
higher than the price that this
kit will retail for later this year.AFV Club
The highlight from AFV Club
is their very well detailed new
tool 1/48 scale U-2 spy plane, the
irst boxing the U-2A should be
valuable by the time you read
this in the UK with the C model
arriving a month later and if you
fancy adding a bit of fun to your
model shelf the latest in the Egg
Plane series should be popularespecially as you get two
examples of each kit in the box.EGG SCALE

This manufacturer’s range
mainly consists of ancient
FROG kits but their long-term
project which is almost ready
for sale in the 1/144 scale Buran
Space shuttle. This type made
one successful space light but
without a crew carrying outtwo orbits of the earth before
landing safely back in Russia.
On display at the show were
both painted and unpainted
test shots as well as a full set
of sprues, so expect to see
this on sale later this year.1/144 SCALE

A number of new tool kits were on
display from Academy including
a very nice B-1 Lancer with two
detailed weapon bays and a 1/72
Scale EF-18 G Growler, but my
favorite, was without doubt the
1/35 scale AH-1Z Cobra, a type
that is large enough to be easy
to detail for older eyes like mine
but also relatively easy to store,
add to that an impressive sharks
mouth and what’s not to like!1/144 SCALE
