Scale Aviation Modeller International – March 2019

(WallPaper) #1

T

he G.50 is a relatively
well covered subject,
as one can easily ind
a kit nearly in all scale
from 1:144 to 1:32. In 1:72 the
Airix kit is with us for more

than four decades and in 1999
came the AML examples. So
do we really need a new G.50 in
1:72? I think yes (much more
than another 109 if you ask
me); the Airix kit is really old

and it just shows and the AML
is short run ( I mean very-very
short run) so neither is a walk
in a park and if You want to
build a decent Fiat from them
you need to do some serious

THE KIT
I was pleasantly surprised
when I heard that SBS were
releasing a Fiat G.50. And I was
fortunate enough to visit the
SBS factory in Budapest where
I met Otto Jozsa who designed
this particular kit. He told me
that it had taken over a year to
inalize the design as he had
to reengineer the kit several
times as newer information
and photos came to light. He
found that all widely known
previous drawings are wrong
so he made entirely new ones.
This combined with very

high-resolution 3D printing
ensures the detail surpasses
even the most recent injection
moulded kits. The kit supplies
50 light grey resin parts (You
will use about 45) and a clear
one (windshield) a photo etched
fret (harnesses, IP and some
levers, pitot tubes etc.) with
acetate sheet for the IP, two
white metal gear legs. There
is a well-printed decal set for
two FAF aeroplane; one with
the original factory Italian
camoulage and a later one in
the Finnish olive/black/light
blue livery for this boxing.

THE BUILD
If you ever owned a small
scale produced Italian car you
may know that they are built
with what they have on the
shelves. The Italian aeroplane
