WAU (Windows Automatic Updates) Manager

is a replacement for Windows’ built-in update

feat ure. It le ts you control which updates get

instal led and when, and lets you remove any

unwanted or problematic ones.

Start by ticking the box to disable the

Windows feat ure, making WAU Manager the

default. Once that’s done, you can pick the

mode you require – Normal (asks before

instal ling updates), Passive (instal ls updates

and shows progress only) and Quiet (installs

updates and shows notifications only). You

can choose the type of updates to instal l –

drivers, softwareor both – and set a schedule

for them.

WinToUSB lets you boot into and run Windows
directly from a USB flash drive. There are a
couple of requirements, though – you needa
fast USB stick and a copy of your Windows
instal lation media in ISO, WIM, ESD or SWM
image file format, or a CD or DVD.
A simple wizard guides you through the
proc ess of creating a bootable‘Windows To Go’
instal lation. The latest version improves the
cloning proc ess and fixes a numberof important
bugs. It also adds suppor t for Thunderbolt
drives and cloning Windows between disk s
with differen t sector sizes. There’s a paid-for
version available with additional features for
$29.95 (£24.19).

You prob ably have hundreds orthousands
of photos on your PC, including duplicates
in di fferen t folders or ondifferen t drives.
Finding these clones is easy if they share the
samename and size but, if you’ve renamed,
resized or rotated them, it may be trickier.
