Reinstall a Bluetoothdriver

My Qualcomm Atheros AR30 11

Bluetooth 3.0 adapter no longer

works with my HP 635 laptop. I am not

sure when it stop ped, but I assume that

the prob lem is due to a Windows 10

update. In Device Manager, it shows

a smallyellow triangleover the entry.

I’ve triedto download the driver updates,

but I get a message saying that I already

have the latest drivers.

Having had no luck finding a solution

to the problem, I bought a cheap

Bluetooth dongle, which isworking fine.

But I’drather use the built-in Bluetooth

so I can free up the USB port.

After months of waiting, my PC

finally showed an update for

Windows 1903 (I had 1809 ti ll this

point). After it downloaded and

instal led, the PC restarted, so I left

it to its own devices and came back

later. On my return, I logged back in

and found that it hadn’t instal led at all

and I was still on version 1809.

Since then I’ve checkedWindows

Update every day, but the 1903 update

doesn’t show up any more. I realise

I could try getting it from the Microsoft

website, but should I justwait for the

next patch ins tead?

I was updating ‘2019-08 Cumulative

Update for Windows 10 Version 1903

for x64-based Systems (KB4512941)’,

but my computer switched off halfway

through. I have attempted the update

19 times with the sameresulting error

messag e 0x80070002. Someadvice

on the internet suggests deleting the

“pending.xml” file. Should I try this?

Now click Start, typecommand

promptand click the link to run it as

an admini strator. In the window, enter:

sfc /scannow

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-

image /scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-

image /Restorehealth

net stop wuauserv

net stop bits

rename c:\windows\

SoftwareDistribution

SoftwareDistribution.bak

net start wuauserv

net start bits

If Wi ndows Update still isn’t

working, repeat the proc ess two or

thre e ti mes. Once isn’t alwaysenough.

Sometimes, after

initially failing

to install an update,

Windows eventually

sorts itself out, so one

option is to leave it a bit

longer and see what

happens. Open Settings,

Update & Security and

click ‘Check for updates’

every couple of days.

However, it’s frustrating

waiting for something that may never

happen and there are steps you can

take to try to fix the prob lem.

Go to Settings, ‘Update & Security’,

Troubleshoot, then run all the

troubleshooters. Click the Start button

and typedisk clean-up. Click the link

to run it as an admini strator. Tick all the

options and clean up the hard drive.

It’s possible that a hardware driver

is incompatible and causing prob lems.

Click Start and typedevice manager,

then open it. Expand each section,

except‘System devices’ and ‘Universal

Serial Bus controllers’, then right-click

each item and select ‘Update driver’.

Everythingmay already be up to date,

but it’s worth checking.

Unplugthe

Bluetooth dongle

and try this. Instea d of

updating the built-in

Bluetooth driver in

Device Manager,

right-click it and select

‘Uninstall device’.

Restart Windows

afterwards and see if

it works. There is a

whole page of drivers

for this adapter in the

Microsoft Update

catalogue (bit.ly/

mscat486), with no

indic ation of which
