Control your Xbox with
Google Home
I’ve just discovered thatyou can now
use Google Home – either the phone
app or a smart
speaker –to turn
on your Xbox
and play games.
Setup is quite
quick – first, join
the Xbox Google
Group (bit.ly/
xbox486) using
the Google
account you
use with Home,
then open the Google Home app on
your phone and pressAdd, then ‘Set up
device’. On thefollowing screen, select
‘Have something already set up?’ and, in
the list ofavailable services, choose
‘[beta]Xbox’. You needto sign into this
withyour Xbox-linked Microsoft account.
Now, after saying “Hey Google”you
can usecommands such as ‘Play
Overwatch onXbox’, ‘launchYouTube on
Xbox’, ‘turn onXbox’ and ‘takea
screenshot onXbox’. It won’t work with
every app (BBC iPlayer doesn’twork,
for example) but it’s a goodstart for a
beta and it’s worked flawlesslyfor me.

See more in your inbox
One advantageto using the Mail app in
Windows 10 is thatyou don’t get the ads
that are on the Outlook.com website.
Why open a browser and get ads when
your messages are in the Mail app?
You can customiseyour inboxto show
more messages. Open Mail and open the
Settings panelby clicking thecog iconat
the bottom, then openPersonalisation
and selectCompact in the ‘Folder and
message spacing’ section.Returnto the
main settings and open ‘Message list’,
then turn off theswitch for ‘Show sender
pictures’.This makes the inbox listinga
bit more packed but I like thatyou can
see more ofyour emails on one page.

MOBILE
Let specific callers bypass
iOS’s DoNot Disturb
I frequentlyswitch on Do Not Disturb on
my iPhone, but thenworry that I might
miss an important call.Thankfully, I’ve
now learned thatyou can ‘favourite’
certaincontacts so their callsbypass the
setting. To do this, goto Do Not Disturb,
Phone, Allow Calls From. Make sure this
option is setto Favourites.
Next,you needto addcontactsto your
favourites list, so open the Phone app,
then theFavourites tab and findyour
chosencontact. Select their number in
the address book.

You can also turn on Emergency
Bypassfor anycontactby editing their
entry in the address book. Select
Ringtone,toggle on EmergencyBypass
and they, too, will get past any active
Do Not Disturb setting.

Add multiple accounts to
EdgeChromium
Good news for everyone who shares
theircomputer with other people – the
newEdge browser supports multiple
users, soyou don’t needto keep logging

browser and
pressyour

which is next
to the address
bar. You
should see
two options
beneath the
current
profile:
‘Browse as

add additional local users. You can then
sign in with the new Microsoft account
whenyou switch to this new profilefor

BLUNDER OF THE FORTNIGHT

I can’t be the only person who
accidentally ends up closing tabs–
sometimes multiple times in one
session. I’ve lostreams ofwork and
hadto log into sitesover andover.
I even overspent on Amazon because
I clicked the dreaded ‘X’by mistake
whencomparing prices on the site!
In an effortto combat this,
I pr eviously used Gesturefy (bit.ly/

mouse‘gestures’to reopen tabs.
Unfortunately, this onlyworks for the
last tab closed.
Now, I’ve found the perfect add-on.
