REGISTER NOTES

G-AKTR AERONCA 7AC CHAMPION (7AC-3017)
This aircraft was first registered in the UK on 19.06.89 and,
according to the official CAA record, the aircraft was built
in 1946 and has the previous identity N58312. A-B has
always shown its details as such and has also since added
NC58312 to its ‘history’. However, recent examination of
the FAA record cards shows that NC58312 was allocated to
a Cessna T-50 from 02.44 until 28.08.70, and was later
allocated to a Hispano HA-200 in 04.85.
The FAA file for Aeronca 7AC c/n 7AC-3017 shows it was
built by the Aeronca Aircraft Corporation at Middletown,
OH and completed 12.06.46. CofA and CofR applications
13.06.46 by Aeronca and registered as NC84323; fitted with
a Continental A65-8F engine. Bill of Sale 13.06.46 to Dakota
Aviation Company, Huron, SD and CofR application

Bill of Sale and CofR 24.06.70 to Richard A Meadowcroft,
Duluth, MN. Cancellation requested 07.01.72 by Richard
Meadowcroft who advised the FAA 12.01.72 that the
aircraft had been ‘totally destroyed by a blizzard’ on
03.01.70. The FAA cancelled the registration 07.02.72.
CofR application 23.06.75 by Jorgen A Kjostad, Grand
Rapids, MN based on a Bill of Sale dated 05.01.71 but not
filed with the FAA until 10.06.75. Bill of Sale and CofR
20.10.75 to Robert S Barrett, Deer River, MN. Bill of Sale
07.02.77 to Uwe Stoessinger, Mansfield, ONT, Canada and

taken up Canadian marks. On 19.08.78 a Bill of Sale to Ivan
E Ewers, Gamboa, Canal Zone, Panama was filed with the
FAA. A CofR application was made 15.09.78 but was not
completed and on 01.03.79 the FAA requested information
on the aircraft from applicant but no reply was received.
G-AKTR was regd 19.06.89 (CofR No: G-AKTR/R1) to M C
Bennett, Redruth. Based at Dunkeswell with initial PtoF to
22.01.91. Re-regd 27.02.90 (CofR No: G-AKTR/R2) to C & G
Fielder. Still based at Dunkeswell and named ‘Eddie’ by

  1. PtoF renewed to 14.07.92, 28.07.93, 10.08.94 &
    27.07.96, then lapsed. Re-regd 10.04.96 (CofR No: G-AKTR/
R3) to C Fielder, still based at Dunkeswell. Re-regd 19.09.
(CofR No: G-AKTR/R4) to C. Fielder, now based at New
Farm, Felton. PtoF renewed to 18.07.03 then to 17.06.
and based at Oaksey Park. PtoF renewed to 17.06.07 and
    26.10.09.
    Re-regd 09.01.09 (CofR No:G-AKTR/R5) to R Tarplee,
Ceredigion but seems to have remained at Oaksey Park.
PtoF renewed to 26.10.10 and 26.10.11.
    Re-regd 28.07.11 (CofR No: G-AKTR/R6) to M J Whitwell,
Bristol. Based at Doynton and PtoF renewed to 09.11.12.
    Re-regd 02.10.12 (CofR No: G-AKTR/R7) to T White,
Liverpool, based at Liverpool John Lennon. PtoF renewed
    to 10.10.13 and 10.10.14. Re-regd 07.01.14 (CofR No:
G-AKTR/R8) to E Gordon, Keighley and based at Breighton.
PtoF renewed to 13.10.15, 27.09.18 and 02.12.19. Total
    hours at 03.12.18 were 2399.
Although we have a gap in the history from 25.03.
until 19.06.89, clearly the aircraft cannot have been
NC58312 since that registration was already allocated and
in use elsewhere. Furthermore there is no evidence from
the FAA records that N58312 was ever allocated to an
Aeronca. We therefore now believe that the previous
identity of G-AKTR should be N84323 and NC84323 (with
thanks to Barry Collman, Barrie Towey and Bernard Martin).
