Celebrateindependencewithmusic,entertainmentandgoodold
Caribbean fun at the Guyana Carnival in capital Georgetown. Now
in its second year, this event is already a must. Hit the road with the
amazingly costumed, feather-clad performers and release your inner
dancer. With DJs and musicians on hand to provide the soundtrack,
and local eats to provide the fuel, all you need is a little stamina to
join one of the region’s most exciting new parties.

WHITSUNTIDEREGGATTA
Enjoy superb sailing over the Whitsun weekend at
one of the region’s greatest maritime festivals. The
round-the-island race is always hugely popular, but
look out, too, for open boat races and the legendary
welcome party on day one. The event is about much
more than merely competing to see who’s fastest;
the social side is just as important, with old friends
and new meeting up to share the experience. Cultural
events are also promised on Petit Martinique –
expect all of the 900-strong population to be out
partying over the days (and nights) of the regatta!

Where better than the Spice
Island to tickle those tastebuds?
There’s the Battle of the
Flavours culinary and mixology
competition, a breakfast and yoga
club every morning, farm-to-table
tours, afternoon tea at the Great
House, meditation, art, wine and
music, plus a Sailing Culinary
Safari. Centrepiece is the Food
Fest and Garden Party on 25 May,
showcasing the best chefs from
all seven parishes, followed by
a concert under the stars. Chef
Belinda Bishop says: “We are very
excited to share our rich culture
with the world through this
dynamic, gastronomic festival. This
island produces a variety of crops
that not only support healthier
lifestyles but also allow for
sustainable agricultural practices.”
