Black and white is called monochrome. The mono part is
misleading. Removing colours simply allows other aspects of an
image – emotion, tone, and contrast, among them – to come
into play. It’s a storytelling powerpack, if you will. Once the only
choice, it is becoming, for growing number of photographers,
the first choice again. Candide McDonald reports.
