through the ceiling, rather than having
to go into the ceiling.
Check the existing lamp connector is
not faulty and undo it/them from the
existing transformer. Connect each lead
to the new transformer and tighten the
terminals fully.
Undo the 230V wiring and then
connect this into the new transformer.
Note that some versions have multiple
connectors to allow more than one light


on the circuit, so make sure you connect
one wire to L and the other to N. Put the
cable cover on and tighten to hold the
cables and prevent accidental contact
with the live wires.
Insert the LED lamp and check it
works before unplugging the lamp(s) and
pushing the transformer back into the
ceiling. The transformer should be on
WRSRIWKHLQVXODWLRQ5HDWWDFKWKHÀ[WXUH
and then connect the LED lamp(s).

Depending on the version, you may
notice that the light is whiter and may
be wider in beam than the original
dichroic. There are ‘warm white’ lamps
if you prefer.
Replacing downlights is a similar
exercise except these will have an
earth wire.
