doctor,whoprescribedantibiotics.Thedoctor
saidif theantibioticsdidn’tworkbyThursday
theywouldneedtotakeMadeleintohospital.
ByTuesdaytherewerethreeblackspots
noticeableonherswollenface.ByWednesday
theswollensideofherfacehadturned
completelyblackandshewasstrugglingto
breathe.
Assheis unemployedanddoesnothave
a medicalaidherhusbandtookherto
SebokengHospital,wheredoctorstoldher
[shehadcontracted]a flesh-eatingbug.They
immediatelyoperatedonher.

fleshhadbeeneatenaway,andwhichwas
cleanedonlyeverythreedays.Shesaidit
wassopainful,andsmeltbad.

onTuesdayJuly2 at08h10,I receiveda
callfromMidvaalHospitalmanagement
regardingMadelein’scase.Theysaidthey
wantedtomeetwithme.
WhileI wasthere,I receiveda Whatsapp
fromMadelein’sfriendsayingthatSebokeng
hospitalsaidshecouldbedischarged.I told
MidvaalHospitalmanagementandit was
decidedthatwewouldgofetchherright
away.
At Midvaal, she was bathed, her woundswasputinanisolationward.
OnWednesdayJuly10,Madeleinwentinto
theatretohavefiveteethremovedandhave
theholeinherthroatclosedup.Wewere
sorelievedthattheoperationwentwelland
thatthedoctoris happywithherprogress.
However,theysaytheaffectedareais too
largetoclosewithouta skintransplant.
Shestillneedstohealfromthatoperationand
onlythencanshehavea skintransplant.There
is stilla longroad ahead for Madelein as funds
are needed.”
