Baltimore Bride – July 2019

(Amelia) #1

BALTIMORE | 117 | WEDDINGS

the two met on the West Coast.
“When it came time to pick a location
for our wedding, we knew we wanted to do
something on the smaller side,” Workneh
recalls. “We wanted something really
intimate, not a huge wedding.” While they
scoped out a few potential venues close to
home, asking their family to travel across
the country and pay for expensive hotels
didn’t feel right. “Cost definitely played a
factor in it,” says Workneh. “We knew we’d
be able to get a lot more for our money do-
ing something in Baltimore.”
Finally, the couple settled on Artifact
Coffee, a rustic venue on the border of
Hampden and Woodberry that can ac-
commodate up to 65 people, for their
September 2017 wedding. “It wasn’t just
our budget we were considering, it was
everyone’s,” says Workneh, noting that
she and Carmen have family members
who attended with young children. “Even
though we had people come from out of
town in Baltimore, the hotels were more
reasonably priced. A lot of people stayed by
the Inner Harbor and could go sightseeing,
they could go to D.C.—there were a lot of
options for them without having to break
their budget.”
