Gauge
16 sts in St st with lace weight yarn and US 8 (5 mm) needles = 4
in./10 cm


Gray Layer
With gray lace weight yarn and US 8 (5 mm) circular needle, cast on
132 (140, 148) sts and join into round.
Work [k2, p2] ribbing in the round for 4 in./10 cm.
Increase round: Work in St st, increasing 0 (1, 2) sts for a total of
132 (141, 150) sts.


Continue in St st for 14 in./36 cm.
Eyelet round: *K1, k2tog, yo. Rep from * to end of round.
Next 5 rounds: Work in St st.
Change to US 4 (3.5 mm) needle and light gray #8 pearl cotton
thread. Double your stitch count by working [k1, yo] into every
stitch of the round.
Next round: Knit all sts.
Next round: Double your stitch count once more by working [k1, yo]
into every stitch.
Work in St st for 9 rounds.
Crocheted edging: Using crochet hook, grasp 4 sts and sc them to-
gether, followed by a chain of 6. Continue with [sc4tog, ch6] until
all sts are bound off.

White Layer
Turn skirt inside out, WS facing. Using crochet hook (and placing
on US 8 needle) and white lace weight yarn, pick up all 132 (141,
150) sts from the next-to-last gray lace yarn round.
Work 5 rounds in St st, increasing 12 (11, 10) stitches evenly spaced
in fi rst round for a total of 144 (152, 160) sts.
Continue from chart, repeating Rounds 1 and 2 nine times in all to
complete Rounds 1–18, then working rounds 19 to 24 once.
Bind off all sts with a crochet hook as explained in the Delicate Shoul-
der Wrap pattern on page 13.
Fold half of the waistband to the inside and sew it on by hand not too
tightly, leaving a small opening for inserting the elastic.
Insert elastic into waistband and sew both ends of the elastic together.
Weave in all ends.
Gently steam iron the skirt.
