Special Stitches
tFront post single crochet (fpsc): Keeping hook in front of work,
insert hook from right to left around post of previous row stitch,
grasp the working yarn to create a yarn over, draw up a loop, yarn
over, pull working yarn through both loops on hook.
tTreble crochet 2 together (tr2-tog): To tr2-tog, work 1 treble
crochet, but leave two loops on the hook—don’t pull the last
loop through yet. Now, work another treble crochet and pull the
working yarn through the last 4 loops at once—you have worked a
tr2-tog decrease. Th ese decreases will form the calyx.
tTreble crochet 3 together (tr3-tog): To tr3-tog, work 1 treble
crochet, but leave two loops on the hook—don’t pull the last
loop through yet. Now, work another treble crochet, leaving 3
total loops on the hook. Work another treble crochet, pulling the
working yarn through the last 4 loops at once—you have worked a
tr3-tog decrease.For crisp and fi rm fl owers, work somewhat tightly.
Ch5 and join into round with a sl-st.
Round 1: Ch3, tr1, then [tr2-tog] 4 times.
Round 2: Mount fi ve [sc1, ch4] arcs onto the stitches of the previous
round. Close the last arc with a slip stitch.
Round 3: For the fi rst petal row, work [sl-st 1, ch3, tr2-tog, ch3, sl-st
1] into the arcs.
Round 4: For the second petal row, work into Round 1 fi ve [sc1, ch6]
arcs, again closing up the last arc with a slip stitch.
Round 5: For the third petal row, work into the arcs: [sl-st 1, ch4,
tr3-tog, ch4, sl-st 1].
Weave in all ends.
For the stem, work a chain of the desired length and slip-stitch back
over it for reinforcement.
Th read the stem through the center of the fl ower and either sew the
