5 ACCENT WALL IDEAS

FOR TIGHT SPACES

  1. WALLPAPER. With peel-and-stick and two-step paste options,
hanging wallpaper is easier than ever. Pick a pattern with texture
or a large pattern that will complement the space, or go for
something subtle and smooth. Either way, you’re getting interest
from flat paper that won’t interfere as you move around.

  2. WOOD PANELS. When you have a tight space, every square
inch counts, so rather than installing a wood wall that will stick
out an inch or two, opt for thin peel-and-stick wood panels that
will add texture without the depth. The finish options are endless.

  3. BRICK PANELS. The same wood panel idea can be applied to
brick, too. Most walls can’t handle the weight of a full brick, but
companies like Cherokee Brick offer panels called brick veneer
that are thin, yet appear full-sized.
    4. STENCILS. If wallpaper isn’t your thing, grab some paint,
a brush and the stencil of your choice and create your own
pattern. You can stencil script across the wall or pick a pattern
that will mimic wallpaper. Plus, you have more control over the
color since you’ll choose the paint.
    5. PAINT. Not into patterns? A pop of color can do wonders in a
small room, and painting one wall a soothing color like blue or
light pink can completely change the vibe of the space.

(opposite, far left) No mudroom is
complete without a space to hang
jackets and bags. “Mudrooms are
super practical for regions where
you get all four seasons—especially
during the winter and spring, it’s
helpful to have a space to hang coats
and drop muddy shoes,” says Victoria.

Signs adds a homey touch.

way to bring texture and interest
to smaller spaces. “The accent wall
offsets the bright white of the
vertical shiplap in the mudroom,”
says Victoria. “It gives a lot of texture
to the small space, which works well
with the texture of the Cherokee
Brick flooring.” The faucet and

charming accessories like the hand
