DIY POTTED CENTERPIECE
Combining plants into a single pot is a perfect way to add a pop of color to any room. To give your home an exotic twist, Chapman
suggests placing a fanciful orchid as your centerpiece and fi lling the surrounding area with a slew of succulents, ferns and bromeliads.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Make sure all your plants, pots included, fi t
into a large planter. Once you’re sure of this,
fi nd a home for your centerpiece where it
will be seen from all angles, to capture the
beauty of the diverse plant types. - Now it’s time to get creative. Place your
orchid in the planter and position the
other plants (fern, nerve plant, echeveria,
bromeliad, etc.) around it, tucking small
segments of bubble wrap in the gaps. This
will help fi ll the surrounding area while
keeping the composition balanced.
- Lastly, cover the plastic pots and bubble
wrap with a thin layer of moss. Water each
pot individually, and as soon as “the orchid
blooms fade,” simply disassemble the
lagging pieces and install a new orchid to
rekindle your bouquet.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Colorful orchid of your choosing
- Tricolor fern
- Nerve plant
- Perle von Nurnberg echeveria
- Vriesea bromeliad
- Large vessel/bowl
