FLOOR Focus

W

hen it comes to choosing
hardwood floors, there are so
many options on the market
that the decision can feel
overwhelming. Luckily, there
are several considerations that will help you narrow
down your options and determine which type of
wood flooring will best suit your needs.
We’ve asked Mandy Sancic, cofounder of Olde
Wood, Ltd., about the process. Olde Wood specializes
in custom, wide-plank and reclaimed hardwood
flooring, as well as traditionally milled new wood
flooring. Here are her expert tips to choosing your own
hardwood floor.

COLOR AND TEXTURE
First, decide the general look and feel you want for
your flooring—that means color and texture. “Broadly
speaking, do you want a light or dark floor?” Mandy
says. Also decide whether you want a smooth floor or
a wood that has lots of texture. “The answers usually
come down simply to preference,” Mandy says.
