THE POWER OF COLOR
Elizabeth shares her take on how to develop and maintain a cohesive color scheme.
- FOUNDATION COLORS. Elizabeth found that the perfect balance for her home hinges on a
neutral color palette. She painted the foundation in whites and creams before making bolder
color choices. She says that “grays and blues add pops of drama” and work well in combination
with the pre-existing neutrals. - DOMINANT COLORS. When establishing a color palette for your home, start with deciding on
your dominants. Elizabeth recommends sticking with a specifi c paint color for multiple areas of
your home. “I painted in neutral colors fi rst to keep things light and bright,” she says. After living
in the home for a year and getting to know it, she was able to pick her accent colors. - ACCENT COLORS. For your accent colors, you can fi nd inspiration in items you already own,
such as a colorful rug or an antique piece of furniture. Throughout her home, Elizabeth uses
dark accent walls for an exciting change to her bright whites. Keeping the main theme of your
home in neutral territory will make these bolder choices less intimidating.

and Elizabeth run a successful
business together, Margaret
loves that “being able to put
our creative skills to use means
it never really feels like work.”
One of their custom projects
is this cabinet that they
transformed with some love
and bold blue paint.
(above, right) While Elizabeth’s
style is most easily aligned with
farmhouse and colonial décor,
she doesn’t shy away from
borrowing elements from other
styles as well. The simple brass
hardware on this entryway
dresser is a good example of her
weaving in of industrial metals.
