American Farmhouse Style – August 2019

Maryal sums up her multifaceted décor approach, saying, “Even

though our home may seem like a random mashup of design

styles, to us, combining and really embracing all of the things that

make this little slice of Phoenix so charming and special—the

Southwest flair, the cottage coziness, the farmhouse functionality

and the 1950s-era treasures—it all feels really right.”

(top left) Simple, beautiful tile, used in the master bath, is a nod to a bygone time.
“We wanted to stay true to a somewhat modern take on a 1 950 s-era look, so it felt
like it fit the style of the house,” Maryal says. (top right) A pink barn-style light takes
center stage in this bathroom, and it has a notable history. “The now-infamous pink
barn light in our master bath was a DIY project inspired by my inexplicable desire to
find an affordable blush-pink barn light for this space, which at the time was very
difficult,” Maryal says. “Just a few years ago, if you wanted a colored barn light, it was
an investment. This project was one of our very first posts on the blog and remains
one of my favorite things about this bathroom.” (bottom) Endearing decorative objects
fill this little corner of the master bedroom, like beloved framed photos and the green
dresser Maryal bought for her condo right after graduating from college. But the real
star of this scene is the couple’s pup Hamlet.
