Types of

SystemS

SLIP-ONS
A slip-on is usually cheaper but is just
the muffl er. The slip-on uses the
original header pipe and mounts up to
the existing exhaust brackets.

FULL SYSTEM
A full system is the entire exhaust
system right from the header pipe
through to the silencer. This will
include the header, mid pipe and
silencer. A full system is more
expensive but, in most cases, also
produces the most power.

THE GUYS AT Yamaha were nice enough to
supply us with a complete GYTR exhaust
system for our YZ450F long-termer. The YZ-F
doesn’t really need more power but the GYTR
exhaust system made by FMF looks and
sounds awesome so we decided to throw it on
and show you guys how it’s done.

1 STAND
Sit the bike up on a hoist or pitstand so that
the bike is solid and not rocking around. As
you will be pulling and pushing on the exhaust
system you will need the bike to be sitting
sure-footed.

2 SIDEPLATES
Then, remove the right-hand sideplate that
covers the silencer. This is held in place by
three 10mm bolts, of which one also secures
the seat.

3 CLAMP
Remove the silencer by removing the two,
10mm mounting bolts and then loosening off
the clamp. You will need to twist the silencer
back and forth while also pulling against it for
it to come loose.

4 HEATSHIELD
Remove the heatshield from the header pipe
before loosening the pipe. You will need to
reuse this shield and mountingscrews,so
don’t toss them.

5 MID PIPE
Remove the 10mm mounting boltfromthe
front of the mid pipe. Twist andpullthemid
pipe until it comes loose and thenremoveitby
rotating it around the cylinderandout
towards the clutch side of theengine.

6 HEADER PIPE NUTS
To get easier access to the three10mmheader
pipe nuts, remove the aluminiumengine
mounting brackets from eachsideofthe
motor. This will give you straightaccessinto
the nuts so you can remove themandthen
remove the header pipe.
