signals a huge expansion for
the 30 November event,
moving from an arena with
21,030 capacity to Australia’s
largest indoor stadium, which
can hold 56,350.
It fi lls the gap left by the
departure of world speedway
from the same venue,
formerly Etihad Stadum, and
was heavily backed by the


VictorianGovernment’s
tourismpromotionarm,Visit
Victoria, and the Minister for
Tourism, Sport and Major
Events, Martin Pakula.
“Victoria is unmatched as
the sporting and event capital
of Australia and we’re so
excited to bring the AUS-X
Open to a world-class venue
like Marvel Stadium,” Mr
Pakula said. “Melbourne’s
sporting calendar continues
to be the envy of cities
across Australia and
around the world.

AUS-XOpenarehugely
important to our visitor
economy, helping to drive
Melbourne’s international
positioning and profi le,
tourism, branding and
business links.”
AUS-X Open chairman Tony
Cochrane is excited about the
new venue. “Since its
inception, the AUS-X Open
has gone from strength to
strength, to the point where
we’ve found ourselves in the
fortunate situation of needing

toexpandtocaterforthe
growingappetitefor
supercross racing and
broader sports fans across
the country.”
The AUS-X Open Melbourne
will serve as the fi nal round of
the Australian Supercross
Championship. Motorcycling
Australia CEO Peter Doyle
acknowledged that having the
supercross fi nal in Melbourne
would be a great boost: “The
Australian Supercross
Championship is the premiere
off-road championship in
