Iwasexcitedabouttheprospectof
ridingtheHusqvarnaTE300i,butI
wasalsoalittlehesitant.Backwhena
lotofthefour-strokeswereswitching
fromcarburettorstoEFI,Iwasso
excitedtorideone,onlytobe
massivelydisappointedasIfeltthe
fuel-injectedbikeswerenotasgood
asthecarburettormodels.
FastforwardtonowandIwas
thinkingthiscouldbethecaseonthe
two-strokesthathaveswitched.
Husqvarnanolongerhasacarburettor
versionofits300,theonlyoptionis
theTE300ithatfeaturesatransfer-
portinjection(TPI)systemthat’sonly
initssecondyearofproduction.I
hadn’treallyseenoneoftheseEFI
two-strokes,soitwasdefinitely
differentseeinga39mmthrottlebody
sittinginthespotwhereI’dseena
carburettormywholelife.
Myfirsttwominutesonthe300i
werenotveryimpressive,itfeltflat
anddidn’timpressmeanywhereelse
intherevrangeeither.SoIheaded
backtoChristian,theHusqvarna

honcho,toseeifthiswasasgoodas it
wouldget.Luckilyitwasnot,asthe
Husqvarnacomeswithanengine
mapswitchonthehandlebar.Apush
ofthebuttonandIwasbackonthe
trackwithalotmoreexcitement
underneathme.
Nowthepowerwasalotstronger
offthebottomandintothemid-range.
Top-endfeltalittlelessthanwhatI
wouldexpectfroma 300 two-stroke
onagrasstrack.Itwasn’tuntilIrode
theendurocrossandextremetracks
thatIcouldfeelhowsmoothandeasy
touseitwas.
TheWPXplor 48 forkand
monoshockworkreallywellovera
widevarietyofterrain.Theyarenot
assoftas,say,theKTMbutstillvery
plush.Withthebiggestpricetagof
$15,295inthisbunchyouwould
hopetheHuskycomeswithlotsofthe
fruit,anditdoes.Preloadadjusterson
thefork,qualityProTaperhandlebar,
mapswitchandmore.Husqvarnahas
doneagreatjobatcreatingabikethat
worksforalllevelsofriders.
