Finke
David enjoys trailriding and
doesn’t just exclusively race.
“There’s plenty of good
trailriding around Alice, lots
of sand dunes and hills that
are fun to play around on.
There’s always the local
motocross events too and
the Sporties 12-Hour Enduro,
that’s a great event.”
Despite his undeniable
ability in the desert, David
doesn’t have a great
relationship with an event
most people compare Finke
with, the Hattah Desert
Race. From an outsider’s
perspective the two events
look similar; red sand,
whoops and high speed but
that couldn’t be further
from the truth.
“I have raced Hattah and
had a lot of fun but I’ve
never done that well. In
2016 riding for KTM I
finished 12th but before that
my results weren’t great.”
In 2011 he DNFed and in 2012
he finished 24th.
“It doesn’t suit my riding
style as well as Finke does
and I found it a lot
tougher,” he says. “It gets
so rough! I can’t believe
how the riders winning that
event can hold the speeds
they do around that track
for so long, it’s crazy!”
Hattah might not be his
cup of tea but David is open
to doing other races if given
the chance. “I would like to
do a navigational rally if the
opportunity came up, the
Sunraysia Safari looks like a
great event and something I
would get involved with
given the chance.”
