riding on theroadforabout

seven years,rain,hailor

shine, but never hadtheinclination

to push my limits off-roadapartfrom

the odd cheeky detourupthenature

strip to avoid traffic.

That all changedthedayIheaded

out to Pacific ParkinSouthMaroota,

north of Sydney, foradayoftrials

riding, having beeninvitedtocheck

out the first roundoftheTrialsRider

oftheYear(TROY)series.Iturned

offthesmooth,stickybitumenof

WisemansFerryRoadandgotmy

secondevertasteofgravelonPacific

ParkDrive.IknewIfacedahuge

learningcurveassoonasIfeltthe

loosesurfaceundermytyres.

IgotalittlemoreconfidentasI

watchedafewcompetitorsheading

overtothefirsttrialssection.A

fatherandsonwarmingupwith

somebasicskillscaughtmy

attention.Theyoungfellawould

havebeennomorethan 10 butwas

ridinganOSETelectrictrialsbike

withcompleteconfidence.

ThatwaswhatIwasgoingtobe

riding,butthefull-sizedOSET 24

Racingversionwithits1400Wmotor

and25Ahlithiumionbatterythat

goesfor$5995.Afteraquickrun-

throughofthecontrolsandsetupof

thebike,Iwasonmyway.Now,

beforewegoanyfurther,Ineedto

stressthefactthattrialsbikesdon’t

havepaddedseatsandaredesigned

forstanding,duh!Thiswasvery

strangeforalife-timeroadriderwho

isquitefondofsittingdown.

AnyhowIadaptedprettyquickly

andheadedovertothefirstsection.

Thiswasonthesideofasteepridge,
