LOREN PAINTED THE CONCRETE SURFACE ON HER PORCH
TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE WOOD PLANKED FLOORS. HERE’S
HOW YOU CAN DO THE SAME.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Paint stripper
- Plastic scraper
- Concrete paint
- Gloves
- 1⁄8" painter’s tape
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- The bulk of the work for this project will be prepping the area.
You’ll want the concrete to be free of the old fi nish, clean and
dry. Start by adding a thick coat of stripper (we recommend a
nontoxic version like CitriStrip) to the surface; then follow the
manufacturer’s instructions for how long to wait before taking
it off with a plastic scraper. You may need to do several rounds
before the paint is gone. - Make sure the surface is clean and dry before adding the fresh
coat of paint. - To mimic fl oor boards, tape off stripes down the length of the
fl oor with 1⁄8" painter’s tape. Be sure to press the tape down so
the paint won’t get underneath. - Now it’s fi nally time to paint. Use at least two coats, waiting
the appropriate amount of time in between coats for the paint
to dry. - Remove the painter’s tape and your faux wood planked fl oors
will be ready for use.
