thegasandthebandtunesupquick.as the revs piled
on towards the 6,500red-line,thenoise,speed,and
excitementfromtheprogressivelydominatingG-force
allmadefortheproperamGexperience.thereit was!
flatout,thec 43 coupé hit 100 km/h from standstill
in5.6seconds.Itwouldgoonto 250 km/h,limited
electronically,ofcourse,forroadssuchastheGerman
autobahns.evenso,thethrillisthere.let’snotforget
thisisa V6,essentiallya mid-levelthrillmachinebelow
theV8c 63. It has driving pleasure in spades as well as
thehardwareandeventhenecessarysoftwaretotickall
therightboxesinthesportscarchecklist.
theamGridecontrol set-up, for one, with the
multi-link suspension and dynamic damping, works well
to give it a planted feel and make it extremely reassuring
whiletacklingbendsatspeedandnegotiatingquick
overtakes,aswasadequatelydemonstratedonthe
crowdedreturnbackoffthehighway.thebigbrakes
haveimmensestoppingpowerandhaulthis1.7-tonner
from blindinglyfast speedsto adouble-yellow-flagspeed
oreventoa completehaltina drama-freeandextremely
composedcoupleofseconds.the18-inchwheelswith
just-thick-enoughrubberprovidea perfectfoundation
forthehandlingdepartment.thevariableratiosteering,too,impresses.
Althoughitfeelslighteven as youenter tripledigits,itfirmsupnicely as they
build.thedynamicselectmodesalterthattoa considerableextent,however.
all inall,atrs 75lakh(ex-showroom),theamGc 43 coupémakesfor
a compellingchoicegivenwhatit bringstothetable.It’snotparticularly
cheap,butit’slessexpensiveandsomewhatlargerthanmanyofitsGerman
rivals.It’sgoteverythingfroma spaciouscabintoa potentengineand
plantedfeelthatmakeyousitupandtakenotice.It’sa sportscarfirstbut
there’smorekitwhichcanholdanargument,too.It’sgotmulti-adjustable
frontseats,redseat-belts,woodtrimonthecentreconsoleandaroundthe
cabin,a largepanoramicglassroof,andeventwo...let’scallthemseats...in
thebackforaccommodatingtwochildrenorothercompactlife-forms.It


canworkeverydayandona track-daytoo.you just
have to watch the roads and remember to always be up
to speed with your surroundings. If you really want to
get the most out of it, don’t take it too slow...
