Over to You

H

ello, WOXS team. I’d
like to say thank you for
featuring me in WOXS issue
278 as part of the Reader
Panel. I hope that more
readers from Holland will see
this and consider taking up
a subscription, because your
mag is worth it!
Here’s the present I gave
to my current boss when
she turned 60. This design is
from the bookazine Ultimate
Cross Stitch Flowers, 2016 – A
Year of Flowers. It is not that
common in Holland to give
cross stitched gifts – I often
wonder, what do you do with
all those cross stitch cards you
receive in the UK for birthdays
and so on? I modified the
design a little, to include the
number ‘60’. I also stitched
a ‘G’ (her name is Gerdien),
and added the date and year.
This is a perfect project for
playing with colours and for
using up your thread stash!
The result was received with
as much pleasure as I got out
of spending my Christmas
holiday stitching it. I hope that
you all like it too.
Anja Koote, Holland

Tina: What a thoughtful gift.
You’ll start a trend for cross
stitch gifts in Holland!

ust had to send you a letter to
say how much I loved, loved,
loved making this ornament! It took
me a lot longer than the predicted 12
hours, but it was so worthwhile that
I might do another. I hope you do
a new ornament kit again next year!
I loved the plastic 14-count aida

  • I never knew it existed but will
    buy some for future projects.
    Just can’t express how much
    I loved this project!
    Gladys Cotton, via email
Hannah: It’s so kind of you
to write in and tell us how
    much you enjoyed stitching this
    snow globe, Gladys. Make sure
you let us know what else you
stitch on plastic canvas! For more
snow globes, turn to page 56.

I

thought I’d let you see the cross
stitch I have made for my son-in-
law who loves horse racing. His
favourite horse is ‘Red Rum’.
Judith Bissett, via email
Emily: Thanks for sending
us your photo, Judith. With
‘Desert Orchid’, ‘Red Rum’ and
‘Best Mate’, this is the ultimate
line-up of famous horse racing
legends – your son-in-law must
have been absolutely thrilled
with his cross stitched gift!

Perfect

Present

I

bought this custom-
made Royal Air Force
station badge from Elite
Designs*. I’ve stitched
it for my great-aunt’s
birthday as she served at
Uxbridge in the Women’s
Royal Air Force (WRAF).
It took me many hours to
complete and I wanted to
share it with you all as it’s
something different. As
I find it hard to do French
knots, I decided to swap
them with seed beads.
Emma Bryant, Sussex
Sue: I’m sure your
great-aunt was touched
by your thoughtfulness,
Emma. This is the
perfect memento to
commemorate her WRAF
service, and we think it’s
stunning. It’s a great idea
to swap the French knots
for seed beads too, if you
find them a bit tricky.

Stitched with love
Emma spent many hours
stitching this special birthday
tribute to her great aunt
