How to...

1 Cut out your stitched piece leaving a 1cm
(½in) seam allowance. Cut out two panels of
backing fabric to 19x12cm (7½x4¾in). Sew to
either side of your stitching. Then, cut out the
top panel, measuring 15x44cm (6x17¼in), and
bottom panels measuring 11x44cm (4¼x17¼in).
Sew to the top and bottom of your stitching.

2 Use your template to mark out your front
panel and lining-fabric panel. Then cut both out
adding a 1cm (½in) seam allowance. Be sure to
line up the central rectangle on the template
with the stitched area of your front panel before
cutting. Remember, measure twice, cut once!

3 Place your two panels together with right
sides facing and then stitch together using the
template outline as a stitching guide. Leave
a 5cm (2in) gap for turning. Cut a dart from
your seams on each of the corners, then turn
through. Press and stitch your gap closed.

4 Fold the sides towards the back and then
your bottom panel up to meet them. Pin in
place. Tack together along the overlapping
edges and secure your ends. Fold the top edge
toward the back and then press to help keep
your folds in place.

HANNAH, EDITOR
I’ve already started my Christmas stitching,
but this is definitely another one I need to
add to the list. I love the idea of creating
something that can be appreciated and
enjoyed time and time again.
