(Antfer) #1
Although you’ll be able to play as
different characters, certain ones
will only be available depending on
whether you’re playing as survivor or
Mastermind. Only five characters have
been announced so far with others to
be revealed at a later date, and each
will have their own backstory.
Little is known about the
Mastermind, Daniel Fabron, apart from
the fact that he’s a security operative
working for the Umbrella Corporation
and he kidnaps young people to take
part in a twisted data-gathering
experiment inside an Umbrella facility.
Allegedly, Fabron is also a colleague of
Dr Alex Wesker, the ‘sister’ of the long-
standing series villain Albert Wesker.
The survivors taking part in
Fabron’s macabre test each have
unique abilities that encourage
teamwork. Samuel Jordan, an ex-
boxer, specialises in close-quarters
combat and is the group’s damage
dealer, while January Van Sant, an
expert hacker, is able to thwart the

progress of the Mastermind by hacking
cameras and using an EMP ability that
increases the costs of the cards the
Mastermind uses. Valerie Harmon is
the typical healer or support character
and is able to mark enemies and heal
allies around her, and Tyrone Henry
takes the role of tank and, similarly to
Samuel, focuses on close-quarters
combat. Tyrone is also able to bolster
the morale of the group, increasing his
team-mates’ damage for a time.
Each player is free to do whatever
they like in order to survive. You can
choose to stick together or split

up to cover more ground, however
you’ll need to keep in mind that the
Mastermind is always working behind
the scenes. Anticipating what he’ll
throw at you is crucial to surviving.
Another important element to
contend with is the time limit. When
the game starts a timer will begin to
count down. If you’re unable to escape
before it runs out, it’s game over.
Should you take too much damage,
you’ll start to die and be unable to
move. If a supporting player can’t heal
you in time, or you can’t heal yourself,
you’ll perish. That doesn’t mean it’s
the end, though, as you’ll simply
respawn, however a chunk of time
will be removed from the clock, so it’s
imperative you stay coordinated with
your team-mates, even if you do so
while you’re separated.

Dead ringer
It might seem like a gamble to make
this type of game when other similar
titles didn’t do so well, or never even

INSIDER PROJECT RESISTANCE

Okay, so Capcom didn’t
announce a Resident Evil 3
remake or Resident Evil 8, but
we should be excited that
the developers are trying
something new with the
series. The concept of a
‘Mastermind’ player sounds
awesome to me.

I’ve loved every Resident Evil
game, both single player and
co-op, like Raid mode in the
Revelations games, so the
idea of a fully co-op
experience, with a PvP
element in the Mastermind,
is an exciting one. Bring it
on, Capcom!

While I prefer playing horror
games on my own, I’m kind of
into this. I used to love
playing Left 4 Dead with my
mates, and Project
Resistance is channelling
that kind of energy, while
throwing a bit of Dead By
Daylight in there.
