made it to launch. Evolve from Turtle
Rock Studios was a first-person
shooter where a team of four hunted
down a single monster, controlled by
another player, who is trying to hunt
them, and showed a lot of promise
initially, but it ended up losing a lot of
its audience and eventually had its
servers shut down. Fable Legends,
from the now-defunct Lionhead
Studios, had a similar concept with
four heroes completing quests while
a villain, who had an overview of the
whole map, was able to orchestrate
encounters for the heroes to face,
but that game was never released.
Combine this with the fact that
many of the co-op and multiplayer
Resident Evil spin-off games, like
Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella
Corps, failed to impress gamers and
it’s understandable to doubt Project
Resistance’s potential for success.
Despite this track record, however,
Project Resistance seems to have
what it takes not to follow to avoid
the same fate. Behaviour Interactive’s
Dead By Daylight, which sees four
players trying to escape and survive
against one killer has gone on to
become a huge success, and is a
good example of how to take this

Capcom’s producer responds to fan resistance

The development teams at Capcom have proved they
are more than capable of switching up the formulae of
their games. Talking on Twitter, producer Matt Walker
stated the need to continue to offer new experiences in
order to survive. “We as a company need to continue to
branch out and try to offer up new gameplay in addition
to refining the experiences people expect from us,” he
says. “If we just continue to offer up the same thing
over and over again, people will gradually lose interest
with what we’re making.
“The most important part?” Walker continues. “That
it’s a great survival horror experience, if non-traditional.
I think we confuse things when we make things related
to IP that don’t stay true to the core spirit of the IP, but
this project happily doesn’t fall into that trap.”
