WE’RE PLAYING AND
WHY WE LOVE THEM

Drew’s
choice
APEX LEGENDS
Who is this new guy,
and where’s King’s
Canyon gone? Jeez,
how long have I been away? At least
my boy Mirage is still alive and
kicking. No matter where I’m at, or
who I’m going up against, I’m always
up for a ba-bam-boozle.

Warren’s
choice
FINAL FANTASY VIII
REMASTERED
First it was Final
Fantasy VII, now I’m
replaying FFVIII once more, and the
Xbox is a great way to revisit this
classic! Lucky, the lost source code
disc was found down the back of the
Square Enix staff room sofa!

THE BEST FILMS AND TV THIS MONTH

LIMETOWN
FOR FANS OF Sharp Objects, Homecoming
In 2015, a podcast called Limetown quickly
became a cult hit. Now Facebook Watch is
adapting the tale, about two reporters
looking into the disappearance of 300
people in a research facility in Tennessee.
A delicious, spooky treat for Halloween.

FRACTURED
FOR FANS OF Frantic, Taken
Just in time for Halloween, Sam
Worthington takes on the role of a frenzied
husband looking for his wife and daughter
after they go missing inside a hospital.
Netflix horror can be a little creaky, but
Fractured is beautifully twisty and creepy.

RHYTHM + FLOW
FOR FANS OF The Voice
Netflix’s first-ever music reality series looks
like it riffs on shows like The Voice and
X-Factor but with a cool new twist. It follows
Cardi B, Chance The Rapper and Tip Harris on
a US road trip to cities like New York, LA and
Atlanta to find the next hip-hop sensation.

HALLOWEEN (2018)
FOR FANS OF It Follows, Get Out
This new film pares back the series to its
first chilling entry. A direct sequel to John
Carpenter’s 1977 original, Halloween
follows an elderly and traumatised Laurie
Strode as she protects her family against
the killer Michael Myers.

RAISING DION
FOR FANS OF Heroes, X-Men
In this Netflix series based on the hit
comic, a widow has to protect her son after
he manifests unnatural abilities. Like a
modern and grounded X-Men story, Raising
Dion looks at the complexities of raising a
superpowered child.

WIDOWS
FOR FANS OF Hustle, Ocean’s 8
Unforgivably snubbed at the Oscars,
Widows is Steve McQueen’s blistering
follow-up to 12 Years A Slave about four
women plotting to steal riches after a crime
boss murders their husbands. One of the
best films about women driven to the edge.

MODERN LOVE
FOR FANS OF The Romanoffs
Amazon has been rocking the world recently
with its hits The Boys and Homecoming. This
is something a little different, an anthology
series where each episode adapts a
different essay from the popular New York
Times column ‘Modern Love’.

THE PREDATOR
FOR FANS OF Predator, The Meg
Iron Man 3 director Shane Black puts a new
spin on the Predator series, pitting Boyd
Holbrook and Olivia Munn against the huge
and highly dangerous ET hunters. Not as
scary as the original, but brings rabid
energy to the series, and alien dogs.

LIVING WITH YOURSELF
FOR FANS OF The Double, Ant Man
If you’re already missing Paul Rudd’s
cheeky antics in the MCU films, you need to
gobble up his new series. Rudd stars as a
drifter who meets his doppelganger after
undergoing a strange procedure. Expect
laughs and surreal, cartoonish twists.

THE LAUNDROMAT
FOR FANS OF The Big Short
Stephen Soderbergh’s new film for Netflix is
positively strange: an Alice In Wonderland
rabbit hole where a widow investigates two
Panama lawyers accused of financial fraud.
If it’s one thing Soderbergh does right, it’s
‘intriguing’ and ‘weird’.

WATCHMEN
FOR FANS OF The Boys, Westworld
The new adaptation of Watchmen has been
shrouded in mystery since it was
announced, but we can’t wait to see
Damon Lindelof’s spin on the story, set in
an alternate reality where superheroes are
outlawed and vigilante justice reigns.

EL CAMINO
FOR FANS OF Breaking Bad
It’s been ages since the end of Breaking
Bad, and if you’ve ever wondered what
happened to Jesse Pinkman, here’s your
chance. This follow-up is being penned
and directed by Breaking Bad creator Vince
Gilligan, so you know it’s gonna be good.

Chris’
choice
GEARS 5
I just can’t get enough
of the single-player
campaign, one of the
strongest in any game for a while,
and one that makes this a serious
contender for my game of the year. I
love skidding around the world in
that skiff, too.
