zombies, or even locking doors and
weaponising security cameras. The
ace up your sleeve, however, is the
ability to personally control any of the
creatures you summon. Finally giving
you the chance to be that shuffling
zombie waiting around the corner
for a perfect moment to pounce on
an unsuspecting victim. But most
excitingly, for the first time in the
series’ history, you’ll be able to take
control of the hulking and seemingly
unstoppable Tyrant. This is all done
using a deck of digital cards, with
each card having a cost to perform
specific actions that hinder the
progress of the survivors.

Mind over matter
It’s a game of both tactics and
survival, but also of giving players
the opportunity to create their own
unique survival horror experiences.
The presence of the Mastermind
adds unpredictability, and, as such,
an extra element of fear. It’s hard to
stay calm when you have no idea
what the hidden fifth player is going
to do, or what’s going to be around
the next corner, or whether or not
you’re going to be separated from your
team-mates when the door you’ve
just walked through suddenly locks.
Each play session offers a different
experience, which is an exciting
concept for Resident Evil, and one
we’re surprised we haven’t seen in the
series before.

Capcom announces its new game and offers a

Resident Evil experience like no other

HORROR
SHOW

Capcom has been on a roll in recent
years, knocking it out of the park
with a string of successful releases.
Resident Evil 7, Monster Hunter:
World, the Resident Evil 2 remake
and Devil May Cry 5 all debuted to
critical acclaim, and now it looks like
this streak might continue with a
surprising new title.
Project Resistance is a 4v
asymmetrical online co-op survival
game set in the Resident Evil universe,
and it is being developed by both
Capcom and NeoBards, the studio
behind the remake of Onimusha:
Warlords. On the face of it, this might
look like a remake or another entry in
the multiplayer Resident Evil: Outbreak
series, but while Project Resistance
shares a few of the same mechanics,
it’s something altogether different.
Taking place in 1998, just before the
destruction of Racoon City, you play
as one of four kidnapped survivors, a
group of teenagers who must solve
puzzles, fight zombies and complete
objectives in order to escape a secret
Umbrella facility – because of course
the shady corporation is once again
behind it all. But that’s not all they’ve
got to contend with. They’ll have to
do all this under the watchful eye of a
fifth player, the ‘Mastermind’.
As the Mastermind you’ll have a
full overview of the facility through
a series of security cameras. You’ll
be able to manipulate the playing
field by adding traps, summoning

Project Resistance is
intended to be the
next game in the
Resident Evil
franchise, but there is
a slight chance it
won’t actually make it
to release. Speaking
to Eurogamer, the
devs were open
about the fact the
game is just a
prototype right now
and that the
feedback from the
beta will dictate
whether or not it will
be made into a game.
