Ourclubstartedin the1960swithrootsin the
JaguarDaimlerMotorCompany,butweare
nowindependentandwelcomemembers(and
theirvariouscars!)fromallwalksof life.Whatdoesyourcluboffernewmembers?
Anyonethinkingof joininguscantryupto three
sessionsfreeof chargewithnocommitment.
Ourmembershavea broadrangeof skillsand
interests,andwewanteveryoneto havefun
andenjoytheirphotographywhiledeveloping
newskillsandtechniques.Ourprogrammes
aredesignedto providenewandunusual
photographicopportunitiesin a relaxed
environment.Ourwebsiteoffersmembers
their own gallery pages, as well as a wealth ofinformationonprogrammeevents,
competitionsandtechniques.OnWednesday
eveningsfromJuneto August,wehave
informalmeet-upsat locallocations.Describea typicalclubmeeting.
Ourweeklymeetingsvaryandincludevisiting
speakers,trainingsessions,shootsand
competitions.Wehavea goodrangeof
studioandtable-toplightingequipment,
andmemberscanexploreallsortsof indoor
photography,includingshootswithmodels.Our
locationshootshavebeenasdiverseasmartial
arts,architecturalwalkabouts,naturereserves
andAmericancarsona hillsidelocation.We
alwaystryto ensuretherearelearning
opportunitiesand,of course,plentyof fun.Doyouinviteguestspeakers?
Externalguestspeakersarea brilliantway
of inspiringeveryone,whatevertheirlevel
of photography.Recentlywehaveenjoyed
presentationsfromcolumnistandlandscape
photographer,VerityMilligan,PaulSanders
(formerpictureeditorofTheTimes) and
freelanceautomotivephotographer,James
Callaghan.Formanyof thesewejoinwithother
localclubsaspartof a widerMerciaGroup.Domemberscompetein competitions?
Wepreferinternalcompetitionsasa better
wayof sharing,enjoyingandlearningfrom
oneanother.Wehavea schedulerangingfrom
formaltofunandhaveevensetchallengesfor
mobilephonecamerashotstoexplorenew
approaches.Short-termchallengesalso
promoteactionandcreativity.Butwealso
supportsomeof ourmembers entering
external competitions.StartingfromtheJaguarDaimlerMotorCompany,thiscameraclubhascomealongway since the ’60sClub

Thishelpsustoreallygettoknoweachother
andtailoreventsin a morerelevantway.Areanyresidentialtripsoroutingsplanned?
Weorganisea numberof eventsduringthe
year,includingdaytripstoLondonand
Birmingham.Onthoseexcursions,wevisit
exhibitionsandalsotakein streetand
architecturalphotography.Weekendtrips
haveincludedTheFarneIslandsand
Northumberland,Snowdoniaandmost
recentlyHunstantonontheNorfolkcoast.Doyouhaveanyfunnystoriesabouttheclub?
Wearealwayshavinga laugh,usuallyat our
mishaps,in a good-humouredway.Onone
occasionwewerehastilywritingcompetition
entryformsthroughouttheeventassomeone
hadaccidentallyleftthemat home.These
thingshappen!A funnythingaboutthe
clubhousewemeetin is theentranceis at the
backbythebowlinggreen,offthecarpark.
Occasionallynewvisitorsmaystandknocking
at thelockeddoor on to the road before we
hearthem!Whataretheclub’sgoalsforthefuture?
It is greattoseemembersenjoying
themselvesanddevelopingtheirownstyles
andskills.Wewouldliketokeepanexciting
andchallengingprogrammefornewandolder
membersalike,whilestillmaintaining the
