Blinded by the Light
Growing up in the rundown town of Luton
in the Britain of 1987, the British-Pakistani
teenager Javed Khan (Viveik Kalra) feels
disillusioned with his repressive life at home.
However, after a new friend at school,
another South Asian student called Roops
(Aaron Phagura), introduces him to Bruce
Springsteen’s music, Javed identifies with the
lyrics and starts seeing a brighter future.
FIVE FACTS:
- Springsteen himself permitted 12 of his
songs to be included on the soundtrack. - This soundtrack includes “I’ll Stand by You”,
a previously unreleased Springsteen song
originally intended for inclusion in the 2001
film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. - Non-Springsteen songs on the soundtrack
include Pet Shop Boys’ “It’s a Sin” and a-ha’s
“The Sun Always Shines on T.V.”. - The story takes inspiration from the life
of Springsteen-loving journalist Sarfraz
Manzoor, who co-wrote the script. - The British comedian Rob Brydon,
who co-stars in the film, is a real-life fan
of Springsteen.
