MORE STITCHES

Being able to count your stitches is vital and helps to
ensure that you’re following a pattern correctly. It’s a
good idea to count the stitches at the end of every row,
especially after working the first row of stitches into
your foundation chain. To count tall stitches such as
double trebles, it’s usually easiest to count the tall side
‘stem’ of the stitch (see right), rather than the v-shaped
top of the stitch. If you made 21ch (plus 4 t-chs), you
should now have 22 double treble stitches.

Double-check that you have the right number of stitches

HOW TO COUNT STITCHES

1

After making a chain length, wrap yarn round
hook twice and insert hook into 5th chain
from hook. Yarn round hook again.

3

Gently pull the yarn through the first two
loops on the hook only (2 loops on hook).
Yrh and gently pull the yarn through the 2 loops
on the hook to finish the stitch.

2

Gently pull the yarn through the chain loop
(4 loops on hook). Yrh and gently pull the
yarn through the first two loops on the hook only
(3 loops on hook). Yrh again.

4

Your finished double treble crochet stitch
should look like this (above). You can see
how it sits neatly next to the 4-chain turning
chain.

If you’re left-handed, follow these steps for a perfect double treble stitch...
