BASIC TECHNIQUES

Being able to count your stitches is vital and

helps you to make sure that you’re following

a pattern correctly. It’s a good idea to count

your stitches at the end of every row,

especially after the first row of stitches

worked into your foundation chain.

To count short stitches such as double

crochet, it’s usually easier to look at the

practice foundation chain, if you made 22

above, you should now be able to count 22 dc

Holding the foundation chain as shown

above, insert the hook into the second chain

along from the hook.

Gently pull the hook and yarn back towards

the chain loop on the hook. Draw it all the

way through the chain so that you have two

loops on the hook.

Catch the ball end of the yarn with the hook,

so that the yarn wraps clockwise around it

(yarn round hook).

Catch the yarn with the hook again (yrh)

and draw it through both loops on the hook

to finish the stitch. Congratulations!
