COLORIZING LIGHT RE-
FLECTIONS IN WATER
Colorizing reflections in water
requires attention to the entire
photograph. In addition to color-
izing the object, it should be noted
which direction the light is coming
from in the image.

Step One: In the following image,
begin by pressing Command-J (PC:
Ctrl-J) to duplicate the Background
layer. You can find the image
we’re using by clicking here.

Step Two: Click on the Create
New Adjustment Layer icon (half-
black, half-white circle) at the
bottom of the Layers panel, and
select Levels. In the Properties
panel (Window>Properties), we’ll
brighten this particular image a
bit by moving the right-hand high-
lights slider below the histogram
to 244.

Step Three: Make a selection of
the rock using the Quick Selection
tool (W).

Step Four: Create a brown
(#2b241a) Solid Color fill layer. It
will build the layer mask based on
the selection of the rock. Change
the blending mode from Normal
to Color, set the Opacity to 22%,
and name the layer “Rock.”
