Step 14: Duplicate the grayish-
blue Water copy 2 layer, change
the duplicate’s color to white
(#ffffff), and leave its Opacity
at 20%.
Step 15: Create a new layer at the
top of the water layer stack. Press
D to set the Foreground color to
black and the Background color
to white. Click on the Foreground
color swatch and set it to a yellow
color (#f7da54). Click OK to close
the Color Picker.
Switch to the Gradient tool
(G), click on the gradient thumb-
nail in the Options Bar to open the
Gradient Editor, select the Fore-
ground to Background preset (it’s
the first one), and click OK. Also in
the Options Bar, select the Linear
Gradient, change the Mode drop-
down menu from Normal to Color,
leave the Opacity at 100%, check
on Reverse, and leave Dither and
Transparency checked.
Because the sunlight is reflect-
ing from the middle to the left in
this image, we want to place the
brightest (yellow) portion of the
gradient, which appears in the
reflection, on the left side. And,
for subtlety and authenticity, we
want to place the white portion of
the gradient on the right, because
that area is darker and not in direct
sunlight. So drag the gradient
from the upper-right side of the
image to the left side at a down-
ward angle.
Step 16: Change the blending
mode of the yellow gradient
layer from Normal to Overlay, and
reduce its Opacity to 15%. Name
the layer “Sun Reflection.” Select
all the water layers in the Layers
panel and place them in a group
named “Water.”
