How to make the
advent calendar
1
When you’ve finished
stitching the carrot
nose and hat, cut around
them. Remember to
leave one whole square
of the plastic canvas all
around the edges, being
careful not to snip into the
holes containing stitches.
2
Gently wash and press the stitching of the
snowman face and mount it into an 18cm
(7in) embroidery hoop, as follows. Trim your
fabric to at least 5cm (2in) larger than the size
of the hoop. Undo the screw to take off the
outer ring. Lay your fabric over the inner ring,
with the design central, then push the outer
ring down with the screw at the top. Pull the
sandwiched fabric taut and re-tighten the
screw. Using white sewing thread, sew running
stitches around the fabric edges and pull tight
so it gathers at the back, then secure.
3
Sew the hat piece to the top of the
mounted face, in black thread so you can’t
see the stitches. Attach the nose using an
orange brad, carefully pushing it through the
plastic canvas of the carrot, then the centre
of the fabric in the hoop. Push the legs of the
brad backwards to fix, while still allowing the
nose to move. Sew a white felt circle at the
back to finish off neatly.
