NotificationsarenowdisplayedatthetopoftheAction
Centre, whichmakesthemeasiertokeepaneyeon.Click
theActionCentre,^1 then‘Managenotifications’.^2 The
Notificationssectionhasa newtickbox‘Allownotificationsto
playsounds’,^3 whichis applieduniversallyratherthanonan
individualper-appbasis.

Stayingin the‘Notifications& actions’window,scroll
downto‘Getnotificationsfromtheseapps’.^1 Youcan
sorttheapplistby‘Mostrecent’^2 andName.Clickany
apptoseehowupdateswillappear.Youcanchoosebetween
banners^3 andActionCentrenotifications,^4 or untick both to
stop seeing them at all.

The final updatetonotificationscomesin theformof
dismissals. Whenyougeta notification,eitherasa banner
or in the ActionCentre,right-clickit. Previously,youwere
given the option toturnoffspecificnotifications; now,it lets
you ‘Go to notificationsettings’or‘Turnoffallnotificationsfor’
that particular app.^1

File Explorer has also received an upgrade. Now that it’s
poweredbyWindowsSearch,whichmarriesOneDriveto
traditionalindexedsearch,it’sa lotquickerandmore
intuitive.Whenyoustarttypingin thesearchbox,^1 a listof
matchesappearsbelow^2 so you no longer have to wait for
individual results to come through.

OpentheStartmenu^1 toseethefamiliarapplist
andlivetiles.^2 Thenavigationpanelontheleft^3
containsfiveicons– Account,Document,Pictures,
SettingsandPower.^4 Previously, you had to hover over these
to get an individual tool tip; now, you get a section describing
every icon.

The Narrator app can ‘read’ your keyboard’s function keys
and knows whether the Function Key Lock is activated.
To check it’s working, search for narrator. When the
app loads,thenewchangesareexplained.Youdon’thaveto
make anyotheradjustments,justmakesureyoutick‘Don’t
show again’^1 and click OK^2 or it’ll pop up every time.
