TYPOGRAPHIC KNITTING
by Rüdiger Schlömer
For knitters and designers
interested in the art of
typography, this
handsome book shows
how modern typefaces
can be converted to knitting patterns in
creative and surprising ways. As you’d
expect, there are plenty of stranded
colourwork alphabets to play with, but
more unexpected techniques include
slip stitch pixelated patterns for a
‘dot matrix’ effect, modular patchwork
to build large-scale lettering, diagonal
stripes, and illusion knitting.

China, Bangladesh, Mexico, Uzbekistan
and India, who use materials such as
indigo, woad, ochre, cochineal, and
tixinda sea snails to create incredible
dye effects. This book is a visual feast
for anyone in love with colour.

NEW BOOKS

Cosy Knits

by Stolen Stitches

Carol Feller has added an inspiring new book
to her yarn and design brand, Stolen Stitches.
Called Cosy Knits, the book features nine
projects in Carol’s Nua Worsted yarn, from
designers including Bristol Ivy, Louisa Harding,
Jiminez Joseph, and Rachel Coopey.
‘Ballintemple’ is a design by Carol, and is a
swingy cardigan with sideways-knit cables for
a sophisticated look. ‘Tuckle’ is an oversized,
funnel-neck sweater with delicate textured
details which will be ideal for chilly days.

Other garments include a pretty jumper with
a textured yoke, and a sleeveless vest with
chunky cables and a removable cowl.
Bristol Ivy’s ‘Rutland Cowl’ is a playful,
modern take on entrelac, while the ‘Moín’
cabled cowl by Eimear Earley was inspired
by Aran stitch patterns. The collection also
includes a colourwork hat, an elegant cabled
wrap, and a contemporary shawl.
