THE SUPERCHARGER NETWORK
What’s particularly impressive about Tesla’s feat
so far is it’s Supercharger network - the fastest
and most extensive charging network in the
world. So far, the scheme has delivered over
595 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy, saving the
equivalent of over 75M gallons of gasoline, and
with new sites being introduced to the network
every month, those figures will only continue
to climb. By February of this year, the company
had installed more than 3.5 Gigawatts of solar
installations, generating 13 Terawatt Hours
(TWh) of 100% clean, emissions-free electricity.
Each solar installation has an expected useful
life of more than 35 years and will generate an
estimated 86.5 TWh of energy each, enough to
power Washington DC for a decade. In the years
that follow, new innovations will no doubt make
such solar technology even more useful for
longer periods, allowing companies like Tesla to
extend the useful life of their tech.
For consumers, the Supercharger network offers
next-level convenience. Travelers can stop for a
bite to eat or an overnight stay whilst charging
their vehicles, with each Supercharger location
placed on a well-traveled route for maximum
engagement. At present, users are able to
plan a trip via their smartphone and receive a
