INNOVATING IN THE BUSINESS WORLD


Where Tesla is expected to make some serious
headway and change the world is in the B2B
market, with semi-trucks. The Tesla Semi was
first announced back in 2017 to much fanfare
from the business community and is finally
expected to enter into mass production next
year. Tesla says that its Semi is “the safest, most
comfortable truck ever,” with four independent
motors to “maximize power and acceleration”
whilst requiring the “lowest energy cost per
mile.” Businesses in the shipping and freight
sectors will no doubt benefit the most from this,
being able to wave goodbye to fluctuating oil
prices that have a significant impact on their
bottom line - and, more importantly, they can
reduce their environmental impact, too. Around
2,000 Semis have already been ordered as of
the Tesla 2018 Tesla earnings call, with large
pre-orders from giants such as Anheuser-Busch,
Bee’ah, FedEx, PepsiCo, and Walmart.


The Tesla Semi includes Enhanced Autopilot,
which is designed to avoid collisions, with a
centered driver position to offer maximum
visibility and control, and a low center of
gravity to offer rollover protection. Of course,
every driver is responsible for remaining alert
and active when using Autopilot and must
be prepared to take action at any time, but
automating at least some of the processes
will no doubt increase safety. Semi-truck
accidents cost $20 billion per year in accident
settlements - half of that figure being awarded
to crash victims and their families.
