As usual, Michelle showcases the possibilities of a design by using the same
templates and changing the placement of value, or twist, in the position
of the shapes to make new designs. “The world of patchwork is full of
possibilities and I love exploring new options,” she says. “I do not believe
there is a ‘one size fits all’ approach to quilt design.”
This block is called Left and Right (attributed to Nancy Cabot in 1932). While
it is a block with a traditional heritage, Michelle has challenged the block’s
design possibilities to make this a very modern project. She has adapted
the original block by removing the centre seams and replacing with a large
diamond, just perfect for fussy cutting the wonderful large prints that are
