Cutting

1

Group your fabrics into sets of three:
one green print fabric, one blue print
fabric and one of the blue or green solid
fabrics. Each set will be used to make
one block. You will also use the solid light
blue fabric in every block.

2

Decide which print fabric you will
use for the points on the outer
star in the block – it will be referred to
as Fabric #1. The other print fabric will
be used for the centre star in the block
(Fabric #2) and the solid fabric will be
used to surround the centre star.
From Fabric #1, cut:

  • two squares, 7¼in. Cut each of them

twice across the diagonals to yield
four quarter-square triangles from
each square – eight quarter-square
triangles in total

  • eight squares, 3½in

  • two squares, 3⅞in
    From Fabric #2, cut:

  • one square, 6½in

  • eight squares, 3½in
    From the solid fabric, cut:

  • four rectangles, 3½in x 6½in

  • two squares, 3⅞in

  • two squares, 7¼in. Cut each of them
twice across the diagonals to yield
    four quarter-square triangles from
    each square; eight quarter-square
    triangles in all
From the solid light blue fabric, cut:

  • one square, 7¼in. Cut it twice across
the diagonals to yield four quarter-
    square triangles

  • two squares, 6⅞in. Cut them once
on the diagonal to yield four half-
    square triangles

  • eight rectangles, 3½in x 6½in

Green Mountain Star block

1

Lay out four quarter-square
triangles: two cut from Fabric
#1; one cut from solid light blue
fabric; and one cut from the solid
fabric. Refer to Diagram 1. Join them
together in pairs, then join the pairs.
The unit should measure 6½in square
from raw edge to raw edge. Repeat
to make another three units exactly
the same.

2

Draw a diagonal line on the
wrong side of all the 3½in
squares cut from Fabric #1. Match
one of them, right sides together,
with a rectangle of light blue fabric.
Stitch on the line, trim the corner
¼in away from the stitching, flip the
