Block Layout Diagram

8

Join the units and patches in
each row together. Then join the
rows, carefully matching seams.

9

Cut fabrics from the remaining
sets of three and repeat these
steps to make nine blocks.

10

To complete each block, mix
and match the quarter-square
triangles cut from various solid fabrics
in pairs. Join the pairs together along
their short edges, then add a pair
to the four corners of each of your
blocks, as shown in Diagram 6. Your
blocks should measure 24½in square
from raw edge to raw edge.

Assembly

1

Lay out the blocks on a design
wall or the floor in three rows of
three blocks each. Move the blocks
around in the layout until you have
an array of colours and prints that
you like.

2

Join the blocks in each row
together. Press seams in the top
and bottom rows to the left and in the
centre row to the right.

3

Join the rows, matching seams
carefully.

Finishing

1

Cut the backing fabric into
two equal lengths, remove the
selvedges and sew the two pieces
together, side by side, with a ½in
seam. Press the seam open.

2

The quilt top, backing and

quilting machine as they are. If you’re
quilting by hand or on a domestic
machine, follow the instructions for
Preparing the Quilt Sandwich in the
free downloadable Basics Guide* to
pin or baste the quilt top, batting and
backing together.
