Cutting
From the dark cream print fabric, cut:

  • one square, 21½in (centre block
    background). This square has been
cut oversize and will be trimmed
    once the appliqué has been
    completed
From the aqua and brown stripe print
    fabric, cut:

  • two strips, 3½in x width of fabric.
Cross cut them to yield four strips,
    3½in x 20½in (Border 1)

  • five strips, 4½in x width of fabric
    (Border 4)
From the brown and pink print
    fabric, cut:

  • four squares, 3½in (Border 1 corners)
From the cream print fabric, cut:

  • one strip, 20in x width of fabric.
Cross cut it to yield two squares,
20in. Cut each square once across

the diagonal to yield four half-
square triangles (setting triangles)
From the aqua and brown geometric
print fabric, cut:

  • four strips, 2¼in x width of fabric
    (Border 2)
    From the red tone-on-tone print
    fabric, cut:

  • four squares, 2¼in (Border 2
    corners)
From the large floral print fabric, cut:

  • six strips, 7in down the length of the
    fabric (Border 3)
    From the pink tone-on-tone print
    fabric, cut:

  • six strips, 5¾in down the length of
    the fabric (Border 3)
From the brown print fabric, cut:

  • 10 strips, 2¼in x width of fabric
    (binding)

Lay the 21½in square of dark cream
print fabric, right side facing up,
over the appliqué design printed on the
Pattern Sheet. Lightly trace some of the
key outlines of the appliqué shapes onto
the fabric using a fine mechanical pencil

  • they will serve as placement guides.
From each of the two olive/brown print
    fabrics, cut:

    • three strips, ¾in on the bias of the
      fabric (stems)

Working at your ironing board,
feed each of these bias strips
into the lower part of the 9mm bias
tape maker and the 5mm fusible tape
into the upper groove with the paper
side facing up. Pin the end of the strip
to the ironing board after it emerges
from the bias tape maker, then pull
the bias tape maker along the strip
of fabric with one hand and press the
fabric with an iron in the other. This
creates a strip that has the raw edges
folded into the centre on the wrong
side of the fabric with fusible tape
fused to it.

Trace the circle for the berries
onto paper, cut it out roughly,
then glue the paper to a scrap of
cardboard. Once the glue has dried,
cut the circle out on the traced line.

4

Trace all of the other shapes for
the block from the Pattern Sheet
on to template plastic using a fine-
point permanent-marking pen. Label
them and cut them out smoothly and
accurately on the traced lines. Because
the design is symmetrical, you only
need to create one template when a
shape appears mirror reversed: when
